[LINUX] nVidia ION wont playback FullHD
#1
I recently bought a Point of View ION motherboard (ion chipset, atom N330 dual core, Samsung Spinpoint F2EG ext4). I read a lot of positive stories about XBMC, so I decided to try it myself.

The problem after hours of trying, cursing and yelling, is that a FullHD movie wont run smoothly. The weird thing is, on ALL forums I read, it works everywhere, with exactly the same hardware.

Out of desperation, I did a clean install this morning to rule everything else out. This is what I did:
- Installed Ubuntu 9.04
- Run update manager, installed every update
- Install nVidia driver according to this guide:http://www.xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=52259
- Install XBMC, with that guide as well.
- Set renderer to VDPAU
- play Earth.mkv from external HDD

Thats all, it works with everyone, but not for me No . Another weird thing is, its not worse with "The bird scene" than with any other scene, so I'm not sure it is my gpu's fault. Does anyone have suggestions for what i can do to make this work? My linux knowledge is not outstanding, so dont make it too complicated please Smile

have you disabled compositing in Xorg ?

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection

This improves a lot h264 hardware acceleration

It definitely helps, thats for sure. But it doesn't do the job quite yet, it's still nog completely smooth.

Please provide a debug log and it should give us an idea of what is happening.

Playback Problems:

1. Video codec and container.
h.264 .mkv contaner
2. Audio codec and container.
? (does that matter?)

Other things that may be useful:

1. System hardware specs (CPU, RAM, Chipset, etc.)
PoV ION N330 motherboard (9400 chipset, N330 Atom dual core)
2x Samsung Spinpoint F2EG 1TB ext4
InWin BM639 case with 120W PSU

2. Kernel Version
2.6.28-13-generic; Latest on 18th july 2009

architecture:
i686

SVN revision number?
XBMC 9.04.01 r2654

That log does not show you playing any movie.

Also, paste your xorg.conf.

I also suggest trying a newer version of XBMC if you can.

Also, what do you mean "won't run smoothly". Please try to be more specific.

Also, make sure you have Enabled Vsync.

I'll try to get a movie playback in the log. I suppose I have to play a movie, and than save the log?
edit: did it, now there is something about e movie in it: http://pastebin.com/f6cd28854

Xorg.conf:
http://pastebin.com/f6ae8e251

Is there a newer version of XBMC? I installed it through synaptic, so doesn't that update itself?

not smoothly, as in, smooth for 3 seconds, than stuttering when the scene gets complicated, than smooth again and so on. Very irregular framerates. Even at 720p.

Vsync was checked and the V-ram was set to 512mb

There are always newer versions. You can compile yourself.

You may benefit from the smooth video implementation that was included in XBMC after 9.04.

Also, where did you set vsync? What did you set it to?

Any, please search the forums on how to compile yourself. I think you will benefit from the newer smooth video feature that was put in after 9.04.

vikjon0 Wrote:asrock 330 ION works for sure with "stable" PPA.
It is possible that you have to upgrade from whatever version the .iso have but the latest stable is enough.
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-svn/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

Anyway, it is probably more likely that you need to upgrade the nvidia drivers for the ION?
Have you changed the shared memory => 512 and enabled VDPAU?
You should also flash the BIOS before you do anything.

//J

my cofiguration is:
asrock 330 with XBMC live 9.04.1+new Nvidia Ion Drivers
share memory with 512 ram
VDPAU anabled
Enable 1080p @ 24Hz for XBMC Live
XBMC aeon skin

DVD iso everything ok
Mkv 720p everything ok
Mkv 1080p 9 gb. problem, run smoothly...!

How can I resolve this...?
please help me..?
